I decided that I didn't want to use the th-350 transmission that I got with the engine. First of all it has 180,xxx miles on it, but I also wanted to go with something with overdrive so I could get a little better mileage with the car and make it more highway friendly.
I decided to go with a 200R4 which is a 4 speed automatic with Overdrive. I got our transmission from an 87 Monte Carlo, which is supposed to be one of the better transmissions. The Monte had 78,000 origonal miles on it and drove and shifted great, so hopefully I'll be able to get some miles out of it before I have to rebuild it. I'm assuming that the trans also has 78,000 miles on it, but for all I know it could have been rebuilt at some point????
Here is the transmission, I think it looks pretty clean for being 22 years old. It didn't have any noticable trany fluid leaks, most of the oil and grime on the trans was from the leaking valve covers....
I desided to pull the pan and replace the filter before I put the trans in the car. The Pan was replaced not too long again because it wasn't rusty at all. The fluid was also nice and clean, just a couple specs here and there, so I think this will be a good transmission for us.
The inside of the transmission looked VERY clean. It kind of make me wonder if it has been rebuilt???
I'll probably put a shift kit in this transmission after I get the car done and I'm tearing it down for paint and such, but we'll see....
