UH-18SP Fly On, Fly Off Trailer Modifications
We wanted to make it easier to get the 18sp on and off of the trailer, before we had 2x8's for sides but the the 18sp would hop right over them so we decided to put some rollers down the sides. We used 1/2" gas pipe, 5/8" threaded rod, 1" pvc pipe, and end caps to make the homemade rollers.
We started out buy cutting the gas pipe into the lengths we needed and then welded a piece of 5/8" threaded rod into one end of each pipe. To do this we drilled a hole all the way through the pipe and then put the threaded rod in and then welded the rod through the holes.
Next we drilled the 1-1/2" PVC end caps. We needed one for each pipe that had a 5/8" hole in it to go over the threaded rod and another one with a hole in it the O.D. of the gas pipe.
Next we cut the 1-1/2" PVC pipe to the length we wanted and then put the caps on the pipe.
Next we welded all the 1/2" gas pipes to the trailer, we got to test out our verticle welding skills out here, we never broke a roller off even when bouncing off of them, so we must have done some decent welding.
Then we sliped all the homemade PVC rollers over the 1/2" gas pipe and put a nut on the threaded rod to keep them from flying off when we drove down the road. We used nyloc nuts to make sure they wouldn't vibrate off too.
Here we have the uh-18sp loaded back on the trailer. The new PVC rollers made it a lot easier to get up on the trailer.
