UH-18SP's Subaru EA-82 Air Cleaner Modification

Every time we were hovering on the water and we would turn the hovercraft would kick up some spray from the skirt and the air cleaner would suck in a little bit of the spray. After an hour or two of hovering the subaru's EA82 air filter would be wet and it wouldn't let much air get through choking out the engine and the little subaru would bearly run.

We decided to use some PVC pipe and make the homemade ea82 subaru air intake and air cleaner under the hovercraft's seat. This modification helped a lot the air filter now gets no spray near it and the ea82 subaru engine even seems to have more power. We are thinking that its getting more air because the new intake system is less restrictived than the stock ea-82 air cleaner setup. On the stock subaru air cleaner the intake was only about 2" around and now were using 3.5" pipe with a filter stuck on the end. Another plus is that the air filter is about $5 cheaper than the subaru filter.

For the filter we just went to auto zone and found a frame air filter that was just a tad bit bigger than the 3.5" PVC pipe. I then turned a tappered ring to go on the end of the PVC pipe that the frame filter would get jammed onto and then I turned a tapered cap, also out of poplar the got jammed into the end of the frame air filter.

Here the frame air filter pushed onto the turned poplar ring with the cap that I also turned from poplar. I used poplar because I had a lot of it laying around, and it is also supposed to resist rot.
